    SWARM Updates:

  • The Border Mapping Project has begun! Members of Healing Out Borders based in Douglas and Citizens for Border Solutions in Bisbee/Naco have begun the mapping process in their respective communities. We expect things to get into full swing over the next couple of months.

This is a unique project documenting areas of environmental, cultural, historical and community importance along the Arizona, New Mexico and Sonora borders. We are mapping the natural environment, including endangered species habitat, migratory corridors, and other sensitive areas; Border Patrol activities; and places of cultural, historical, and community importance.

  • SWARM has begun producing monthly "Border Updates" for the Free Speech TV (FSTV) news program "World in Crisis". FSTV is a national network airing progressive news programming and documentaries uncovering social, economic and environmental injustice. Many of the programs can be watched on-line. Our first segment covered the Fiesta Bi-Nacional in Naco Arizona and Sonora and was the top story for the week of May 19th. You can watch the SWARM segment at

  • ·SWARM has initiated a campaign with groups and individuals organizing around domestic violence, civil rights and criminal justice issues to keep the Tucson Police Department and other area law enforcement agencies from taking on immigration enforcement (see article). US Attorney General John Ashcroft is prepared to release an opinion that would open the door for local, county and state law enforcement agencies to begin enforcing immigration law. This would discourage witnesses or victims of crime from calling the police, and erode police-community relations.
